A recipe for Keto Scalloped Potatoes that has NO POTATOES. It’s made with Daikon which is actually a radish.
A 1 cup serving of a typical scalloped potatoes recipe, has 21 grams of net carbs. This recipe has only 5.5 grams! That’s a huge difference! My kids do NOT like radishes, but they love this recipe. Cooking the Daikon mellows the peppery flavour. This is comfort food. Delicious with ham or pork chops or alone as an after-school snack according to my youngest daughter.
Have you noticed it in your grocery store and wondered what it was? Now you know what to do with it!
Daikon can help improve your digestive system and boost your immune system. It’s a good source of calcium and vitamin C, and has anti-inflammatory properties which promote heart health!
Daikon Scalloped 'Potatoes'
Ingredients
- 1 medium Daikon radish (sliced into very thin rounds)
- 1 large yellow onion thin slices
- 4 medium slice bacon crumbled
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese grated
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3 tbsp whole wheat flour
- 1 cup Whole milk 3.3%
- 1/2 cup Heavy whipping cream 38% M.F.
- 1/8 cup Butter salted (cut into small chunks)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Layer daikon and onions, sprinkling with salt and pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, bacon, parmesan and flour over each layer.
- Pour milk and cream over top. Add a bit more if you need to fill the dish (I used an 8 by 8 pan and got 3 layers of daikon).
- Scatter the bits of butter around the top.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes. Stick a fork into it to test. If the fork goes in fairly easily (it won't ever get quite as soft as potatoes) it's done. Otherwise, bake for another 5-10 minutes.

How is this keto with flour and milk in it😲
Hi Susan!
The net carbs per serving is 5.5 grams. I’d say that’s pretty low! You could use all cream and another type of thickener if you want it even lower. There is variability of acceptable ingredients depending on what your overall goal and daily carb total is. Most people could easily stay in ketosis with this amount of carb. That’s my rationale 🙂
Yes! Keto is not gluten free and sometimes people forget that. Esp if you’re like me and do “dirty” keto, this is perfectly within reason.
Absolutely!
Do you cook the bacon first
Hi Carol!
Yes I cook the bacon first. I usually cook a couple of packages of bacon at a time (in my oven) and store them in the freezer, so I always have bacon ready to use in a recipe!
